Storm Drain Marking

The Stream Team provides on-going outreach for the City of Chico's Storm Water Program and assists the City with marking storm drain inlets and monitoring storm drain outlets. Stream Team volunteers are provided education during monitoring events including easy measures they can take to prevent urban runoff water pollution from entering our local creeks, and opportunities to participate in storm drain marking events.

Youth Stream Team students also map runoff areas on their campus, test storm water runoff, and learn about land use practices that can potentially cause water pollution and solutions for preventing urban runoff. On average, 1200 inlets are marked each year. Outlet monitoring takes place during the dry season and is intended to document the condition of the outlet and whether or not there is water present as a result of illicit discharges.
